The selfie is the latest photographic trend that was inconveivable a few years ago. But one crazy trend dates back to the beginning of photography itself.
In the 19th century, mothers would drape themselves with a curtain when taking photographs with their children. The purpose wasn't to look scary - it was to control their kids.
Back then, processing photographs took several mintues. During that waiting period, children would become restless without the comfort of their mother. The selfless mothers wanted the children to be the main focus of the photograph, so they hid under a blanket. (Perhaps they didn't think that one through).
The result: Very creepy photos of undercover mothers, who look like ghosts, holding on to their stoic children.
1. This mother looks like she's holding her children hostage.
2. This one doesn't look too bad...For all we know, the baby could be sitting on a human-shaped chair.
3. In this photo, the kid needs a little extra help holding up her head.
4. A thicker curtain helps hide this mother's human form.
5. This boy is acting how he should when being held by someone resembling the Grim Reaper.
6. This mothers actually does a decent job of hiding with the materials she's been given.
7. The body language of the girl on the right says it all.
8. Speaking of body language, check out the boy on the left.
Not today, Satan. Not today.
9. This mother does it right. Is it a chair? A cushion? We'll never know!
10. Who's that hiding out in the background?
Oh, it's just mom.
11. Another mother channeling the Grim Reaper.
This time she's up close and personal.
12. How can we pay attention to the kids when the mom is wearing her best table cloth?!
13. This mother didn't even take the curtain off the wall.
"F*ck it," she said.
