Sometimes, when ships encounter issues, they stay wrecked right where they were left. While they may not always be the best for the environment, they end up looking absolutely beautiful.
Abandoned smugglers ship
Navigio Beach on Zakynthos Island in Greece is home to this ship that ran ashore and was then set on fire to destroy evidence.
BOS 400
BOS 400 was once a massive oil barge that broke away from the tow ship and now resides in Maori Bay, South Africa
Chuuk Lagoon
During World War II, Chuuk Lagoon was Japan's main naval base. When American forces attached the harbor, 44 Japanese ships and 249 aircraft were sunk to the bottom.
Dimitrios
Dimitrios, which now resides in Laconic Bay, Greece, is thought to have once smuggled cigarettes between Turkey and Italy. After it was seized by port authorities, it was left and eventually set on fire.
Doha Ship Graveyard
The Doha Ship Graveyard in Kuwait is an intentional dumping ground for old ships. These are just three of them.

In 1909 the Eduard Bohlen ran into the Skeleton Coast in Namibia during thick fog.
Frigate 356
Once a Soviet ship used during the Cold War, Frigate 356 was scuttled in the 90s in the Caymen Islands. The ship is made of cheap aluminum, which is why it looks like it has been underwater for so much longer than it actually has.
Giannis D
In 1983 the Giannis D sunk with a cargo of timber on board. The wreck now serves as a habitat for local wildlife.
La Famille Express
In 2004 La Famille Express was caught in Hurricane Frances and broke loose and moored on an area of reef in the Caribbean Sea near Provo.
Lady Elizabeth
The Lady Elizabeth was launched in 1879, weighing a massive 1,155 tons. It broke away from port during a storm and drifted to Whale Bone Cove in the Falkland Islands, where it sits today, mostly in tact.
Mars
Mars was a Swedish warship and was the largest of its time. It sank in The Baltic Sea in 1564, but remains one of the most well preserved wrecks in the world.
Mediterranean Sky
The Mediterranean Sky was dumped in the middle of a bay in Elefsina, Greece after the cruise ship suffered financial difficulties.
MS Lord Selkirk II
The MS Lord Selkirk II was once an extravagant cruise ship, but after it was retired in 1990, it was left at the end of a dock and basically forgotten.
MS World Discoverer
The MS World Discoverer once served as a German cruise ship. The ship ran aground during a trip, although luckily no one died in the accident.
Murmansk
The former USSR cruiser was sold to for scrap to India in 1994, but it ran into difficulties off the Norwegian village of Sørvær. In 2013 the Murmansk was removed due to fears it may contain nuclear material.
MV RMS Mulheim
The MV RMS Mulheim was once a German cargo ship that launched in 1999. In 2003 it was wrecked at Land's End, United Kingdom.
Nouadhibou Ship Cemetery
With more than 300 decaying ships, the port of Nouadhibou in Mauritania, Africa, is the largest ship graveyard in the world.
Olympia
Now a popular tourist spot in Amorgos Island, Greece, the Olympia is believed to have been hijacked by pirates before it was run ashore.
S.S. Thistlegorm
When the S.S. Thistlegorm, a British merchant ship, was sunk by an enemy in 1941 it was carrying trucks headed to North America. They are still in the hold of the ship today.

SS America
The SS America was an ocean liner wrecked in 1994 and was on its way to be transformed into a hotel. Unfortunately a storm broke it away from the tow ship and left it in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands.
SS Ayrfield
The SS Ayrfield was used as a transport ship during World War I, but now resides in Homebush Bay and is home to a floating forest.
Sunrise Orient
The Sunrise Orient wrecked off the coast of Hong Kong in February of 2014 after the ship started taking on water.
The Hans Egede
The Hans Egede wrecked as it was being towed in 1957, after being in use for 35 years.
The Russian Wreck
The identity of this ship is unknown, simply referred to as "The Russian Wreck." Many believe the ship is Khanka, a Soviet spy ship lost before 1982. The Russian Government won't confirm the speculation.
The Sweepstakes
The Sweepstakes is located in Lake Huron and was once a Canadian schooner before it was damaged at sea in 1885. It made it to the shallow waters of the harbor, but the leaks were so bad it sank there. Since it's low depth, it makes a perfect wreck for beginner divers to explore.
