That's right people...we're talking about the act of sitting down.Â
This article isn't saying "NEVER SIT DOWN!" or that you need to have a debilitating fear of sitting, because that would be ridiculous. Sometimes it just feels great to take a load off, and that's totally fine.

But if you take too many loads off, that can lead to some very serious trouble.

Sitting for too long each day can lead to serious conditions like type 2 Diabetes or heart condition. Research has actually found that it is more harmful than smoking, HIV or cancer.Â
Extensive sitting causes your metabolism to slow down, and this leads to an increase in your risk of Diabetes and cardiovascular disease...we're talking up to a 14% risk increase.

And the trick isn't to overcompensate with activity. If you are spending hours training for an athletic event but then you STILL spend most other hours of the day sitting, one does not cancel out the other. You're still facing the risks incurred by all of that sitting.Â
The trick is to stay consistently active, even if it's in very small doses. Doing something small, like going for a walk, every 30 minutes can keep your metabolism moving. Standing desks are great, too.

But if you want to have a dance party every 30 minutes instead, no one's stopping you!!!
