These 4 Couples Wanted To Grow Old Together, So They Did The Most Amazing Thing
When you find great friends, you hang on to them. These four couples from Austin, Texas, have been best friends for 20 years, and they've only grown closer over the years. But they wanted to take it a step further.
So what did they do? They built a small commune of eco-friendly, self-sustaining mini homes out in the wilderness, so they could be as close to each other as humanly possible.

The couples are all retired, or on the brink of retiring, and wanted to live somewhere tranquil and free of daily stresses and distractions. Fittingly, they named the endeavor, the "Llano Exit Strategy."

At 400 square feet, each unit is only comprised of a bedroom/living room and bathroom, and has a queen-sized bed, couch, and full patio.

To keep costs low, the couples forewent furbishing the interior with finished drywall, and opted to use plain plywood instead, which actually gives off a very warm vibe.

“It’s a high-design finish that doesn’t cost a lot of money,†said architect Matt Garcia

“This is a magical place, but it’s arid. We’re doing what we can to reserve as much water as possible for the native trees and grasses,†says resident Fred Zipp.

“It’s like a Disney movie out here. We have hare, bobcat, deer, and all kinds of birds. As we spend more and more time here, we find more and more,†said resident Jodi Zipp
