Get Phone Notifications From That Bean Burrito You Ate For Lunch Thanks To This Pill

Remember the science behind why you don't mind smelling your own farts? If not, the reason is simple: because it's own brand. Really, that's it, but when it comes to our own brand, so to speak, there is a lot we can learn from our farts. Namely, studying farts can give us a better insight into our insides. Literally speaking, information on this subject will help dietitians understand what different diets do to our digestive system, especially when it comes to high vs. low fiber regimes.

The hard part about studying farts is that capturing them is not easy. Okay, yes, capturing them with your nostrils (fortunately if yours, unfortunately if someone else's) is easy, but actually capturing them for later study has proven difficult.

So, the point of this new digestive pill, developed by researchers at RMIT University in Austria, is to study your so called "pre-farts." In other words, the pill would be swallowed in order to study the gaseous build-up inside your body, before it comes out your backside.

The pill is no larger than a vitamin you might take, and tracks gassy information inside your intestines, up to 25 hours. The most intriguing part of this pill technology is that it transmits the information directly to your smartphone–every 5 minutes.

Researchers describe it in Gastroenterology, (when tested on pigs) as being able to identify digestive system gases throughout the intestines, specifically the digestive microbiome and bacteria which produces gases as a digestion byproduct. What exactly does that mean? A better understanding of microbiome could help scientists treat irritable bowel syndrome.

Mostly, scientists want to better understand where gas build-ups occur in those with high fiber diets vs. those with the alternative. With this pill, it may become apparent why some people drop bombs that make you react such as the following.

Why? Because, understanding this will explain how microbiomes react in our gut, thus resulting in the outburst of gaseous release. It's a necessary part of life and is actually packed with more than just smells and funny sounds. However, when it comes to the latter, it's okay.

Just take Louis C.K.'s outlook on life.

Anyway, keep an eye out for this pill when it becomes available, and you may be able to start understanding the changes you need to make in your life, just by studying your farts before they ever even get released into the open air.
