1. "Hey," "Hi", "What's up?"

Translation: "I'm thinking about you, but trying to keep it casual so you don't read into my text too much. I want to hang out later if you're down."

2) "I might be going to the party, I'll let you know." 

Translation: "I'm waiting for a better offer before I decide if I'm going to the party. I'm not going to plan my night around you, but if we end up running into each other, that's cool, too."

3) "There's this really cute bar around the corner from my place. Want to go there tonight?

Translation: "I want to hook up tonight, but I don't want to come off like a jerk and just say that. We'll get a round or two of drinks then I'll casually bring up how my place is just a few blocks away."

4) "You up?" 

Translation: "I'm horny and want to have sex RN. If you don't respond within ten minutes or so, I'll text someone else."

5) "Miss you"

Translation, if it's in the middle of the day: "I've been thinking about you all day and I'm starting to think this casual thing we've got going on could turn into something more." 

Translation, if it's late at night: "I'm trying to manipulate you so you'll come over." 

6) "I'm pretty busy with work the next few days/weeks, so I probably won't be able to hang out"

Translation: "Things aren't really working out between us and I'm trying to give you the hint so I don't have to come right out and say it."

7) "Hey, I can't make it tonight - something came up at work. Can we plan something for next week instead?"

Translation, if it's at least four hours before the date: "Something came up at work and I don't want to be crabby/stressed during our date. I want to see you another time when things become less crazy so I can focus on you."

Translation, if it's less than three hours before you're supposed to meet:  "I'm second guessing things between us, and am looking for a way out. I don't want to be rude, so I'll tentatively plan something for later so your feelings aren't hurt, but I'll probably find another way out then too until you get the hint."

8) "I had a great time last night. You're really awesome and I'd love to hang out again."

Translation: "I really like you and I want to see you again - I just didn't have the courage to tell you that to your face after our date ended. I'm putting the ball in your court."

9) Radio silence

Translation: "I forgot, don't feel like talking or am just not interested that way."

Translation: "I jerked off to you this morning."
